Baco Rhythm and Steel

I seem to be drawn to the chilled out vibes in music this week. The cha cha cha chang  (?) of this song is soulful, laced with moments of winding funk beats which lend it a cool, fleshed out tune. Sometimes, I enjoy listening to a bit of instrumental hiphop/triphop/ soul /funk. Instrumental music is cool to chill out to.

The saxophone gives the A-side a G-funk delight.

Is that even a music term?

I guess it is now.  ūüėÄ

This is the first song I’ve heard of the BACO RHYTHM & STEEL BAND.

So it’s great they’ve got a B-side to sample.

On the B side, they have done a rework of Mobb Deep’s hit with the same name. In fact, the B-side has gone straight into my playlist. I adore sounds that immerse cultures and flaunt a multitude of sounds. This has a real Bhangra, anime, Bolly wood espionage feel. It’s playful and seriously cool. Bangerz delight.

For those of you who want to hear Mobb Deep’s ordinal song ‘Burn’ – yeah, they’ve done the song justice. It’s sweet!

Finally, to round up this post, if I may… I wish to impart and depart (lol)with a few words

.I always want to be successful in whatever I’m doing just like everyone else. I want to get it right. I want to see my “5-year GOAL/PLAN” results from the day I have an idea to do something different with my blog or with my Life.

It is cool to not have everything figured from the initial conception. Be cool with that and enjoy the process.

Every day is not going to be a day where we feel we have hit our creative goals.

Great or small.

Sometimes it’s cool to break down a big dream in to smaller chunks. Count all your achievements -great and small

Hit play!

Have a great day!

Floating Points

Floating Points has come under my radar in 2019.

  1. Coorabell- visual & ear galactic delight. It took me three listens to fall in love with the track. I kept coming back to it  Why?  4:21 mins is the moment I fell in love-100%. Sam Bishop (birth name) drops in hard techno yet still maintain the spirit of not becoming lost to the machine of electronic music. Electronic Ambience with a holy mother of God punch.

Turns out Floating points is a Neuroscientist turned D.J.  -(He studied the Neuroscience of pain)  He’s managed to gain respect with the likes of Four tet, Kode 9, and Theo Parrish in the current electronic/EDM movement.

He has a classically trained background he describes as ‘classical, baroque, romantic renaissance’.

He discovered through improvising  & experimenting on the piano  with what he later identified as jazz compositions.  That was how he learned to break the rules.

He cites he was influenced by the  Brazilain sounds of bossa nova of artists such as Gal Costa.

He was challenged to explore electronic music (which didn’t have the instruments such as the clarinet or violin) because the music still moved him.

He describes it as making sense of ‘organised noise’. He started finding music possibilities that he felt in every day, organic  sounds such as being on a train

The second track I listened to of Manchesters, Sam Bishop ( Floating points) was

Les Alpx -The video explodes colours of plasma have a calming effect to contrast to the tempo of the track

I love the energy. It’s bordering hardcore techno yet retains a melody I can relate to

Something I can only refer to as  -the  ‘soul clap’.  I’m not a huge fan of hardcore techno

If a track brings on a feeling resembling the soul clap then that is what usually wins me over.

What I like about his music is that he has insight into how he produces music  – there is a methodical approach creating music with science and using visual media create an immersive experience of sound and using visual imagery to create a space where we can see music. Music that engages multiple sensory stimuli.

I feel like Science x creativity with a touch of esotericism is a perfect equation for experimental music – He named his debut album-  Elaenia. (after having a dream about) a tropical bird.

Son Lux -Alternate worlds

Not your average music review.

My first introduction to American, post-rock, electronica/ experimental trio, Son Lux was this track ‘Easy’.

My brain exploded with a rush of endorphins. Its sexy, funky, 100% Son Lux style & has to be watched live or watch the live version.

I didn’t hear much about them again until 2018 when Son lux dropped this track ‘dream state ( Brighter wounds album, 2018). This was the second time that I heard their music & (once again) I stopped everything I was doing, went back to listen to it over & over.

It has so much emotion on an operatic level| & the soundscape is dramatic, epic &intense. It releases a force of emotion that makes the hairs stand up on the end of my arms.

I was also drawn to the lyrics. I didn’t know what the word impervious meant until I heard this song.

imperviousadjective

US /…™mňąp…úr¬∑vi¬∑…ôs

not able to be influenced, hurt, or damaged:

He seems to be impervious to pain.

Granite is almost impervious to acid-rain damage.

I think there are many times in my life when I’ve wanted to be impervious to situations I don’t want to face, people I don’t want to love or care about (only because to love & care means me having to fight another day, not just for them but for myself).

Then there are the times I want to be impervious to Life & peoples bullshit. That is a mantra I’m going to start using,

‘I’m Impervious to life’s bullshit and traditional fairytales’

I digress…

I think when we lose our ability to care or love then hope is narrowed down to that dark abyss. An abyss is a place for researchers of other intelligent life (in my humble opinion).

The increasing pressure to seek that little light can be a place of entanglement. What I love about Son Lux’s music is that it takes me to nebulous places, but ones where I remember where I hid the match or lighter to find my way back (through the music) to a state of exhilaration/ redemption or just a more positive mind frame. I find most of their songs cathartic.

Back to ‘dream state’ (title & lyrics = Match made in Elysium).

The lyrics & how they are performed have that narcotic inducing effect.

I wrote a surreal piece of fiction when I listened to this song. I’m not ready to share it.

I was also grieving the end of my marriage & I couldn’t bring myself to get rid of our wedding pictures.

I often look back at pictures of happy & painful moments.

This line from the lyrics

We took photographs of everything we could feel

reinforced how dwelling on nostalgia can keep a person stuck – not able to move forwards.

I wondered how I could go from being so in love with nearly destroying my marriage. I speak of where I went wrong. I put my photos away & vowed to move forward. I wanted to be impervious to feeling guilt, shame, melancholy, love, rage- the plethora of what we understand as emotions.

It’s impossible for me to remain impervious to people and subjects I’m 100% straight-up passionate about.

Another great song of theirs is the Alternate world

It has that same ethereal, Gotye esque (‘Somebody I used to know’ featuring Kimbra) sound to it. But better.

Son Lux’s melody, harmony& lyrical content is the G.reatest

Daedelus

My first introduction to Daedelus (Alfred Darlington)was this track- I was mesmerised by the scattered, schismatic  bassline .This is track reinvented  my idea of  the soul element in music . Up until today, I had no idea how many albums/projects and collaborations Daedalus has done.

I didn’t know much about Daedelus. Last year  I came across an interview conducted by power duo/husband and wife  -(two artists I rate)
DComplex aka Daniel Chavez aka DComplexity
& Mondaine aka Lorena Chavez

FUSION [DIGITAL INFINITI] interviewed Daedelus in 2019 before his latest album release ‘the wand won’t break’.

Their interview gives more insight into  the Daedelus’ inspirations & his views on Juke and footwork movement. A style of music Mondaine, Fusion Digital Infiniti embrace

Breaking down the barriers of language,
location, tempos, genres;
through the Infinite Vibes of
technology, music and dance.

SOUNCLOUD

The wands won’t break ‘ tracks are short & the album seems to be made up of interludes. He has taken inspiration from the (deceased) Ras G. Daedelus’ album is a triumph.

‘The wand is not broken’ solidifies Daedulus as a  true disciple of Ras G sharing an audacious creative vision to push the boundaries of sound.

The results of these disjointed  soundbytes interweave  creating another layer merging into a soundscape of critical cosmological proportions

Spindrift Nouveau depart

A true union of hearts was joined one summer in late June.

The birds chirruped, the sun shone ‚Äď the two became one -reflected for all to see by La Luna- the moon
Air and Water ‚Äď shouldn‚Äôt cross paths.
These two elements casually ignore each other in nature’s form-its innate core.
He of Air ‚Äď
She of Water.

The energy that caused the spindrift was something not even these elements could ignore.

Le Mistral caught up in a steamy, heady mood.
Strode across the sky scowling, blowing curses ‚Äď chaos surely ensued .

La Mer
‚Äď she was winding down for the day.

The tide had come in, and she was ready to listen to a mermaid wax lyrical her classic tale of Babe Ruth.

The wind so vexed was he ‚Äď he deafened her with one strike of his herculean hair -clouded by his inability to self- soothe.

La Mer reacted in bad form. He struck her so hard, ‚Äď her mind swelled up with great licks of waves ‚Äď crashing and thrashing her mental whereabouts.

Never interrupt an element so passionate about listening to her favorite composer.

Le Mistral and La Mer could ignore one another no more. She would make him feel the repercussions of his foolish, senseless,not-so-well thought out Strop.

Now he would have to face his conjurer.
A tidal wave of thoughts arose inside her.

He would pay dearly for interrupting her meditative state of mind.

He had no clue what feud he had started.

Fire and Earth were shrewd not to intervene. They knew when to stay out of the way of a combination of this kind.

They witnessed how the passion of this great unforeseen union came to be.

The product of this affront was simply not even what the conflicted two could continue to deplore.

Witnessed by two friends .
Wind and Water created the very first image of love .

Spindrift -a physical feeling of exhilaration consolidated the two .
They were now ready for a new adventure ‚Äď together -ready to explore each other, become the couple -who looked to the other with eyes that said ‚Äėj‚Äôt‚Äėadore.’

Definitions for spindrift
spray swept by a violent wind along the surface of the sea.

( written two months after I got married to my husband – Gaz. He is as Mercurial as Air and I more of a deep waters run still lass. Air & water are two elements that ignore each other. I used to read up all my family, friends, and boyfriends astrology signs when i was younger. I used to read the Aquarius sign and think that is the kind of man I want to be with . Trust us to be incompatible according to our zodiac). ūüėÄ then I went to marry an Aquarius man & it turns out he is my soul mate. Nouveau depart)

Maxine Priest Music Review

Today’s collaboration¬†is narrated by British actress, Maxine Peake ( from T.V. seriesShameless) and ¬†(former guitarist for Morrissey¬†& co-songwriter for the band ‘The Smiths’ ) Johnny Marr.

The video & lyrics were inspired by former BIG ISSUE, Jo Gallagher’s (magazine vendor/seller )own experiences¬†of being homeless in Edinburgh¬†from 2105 until he went on to find full-time employment.

I discovered this brilliant spoken word, experimental soundscape, kitchen sink noir mash-up when I was editing  Act two for a stage play script I wrote about covering themes of Homelessness, relationships, legal highs & the state of the nation today in the U.K.

It appeals to me as it is raw & humorous. I am a firm believer in using my sense of humour in life to get me through dark moments.

It gives a bigger perspective of the idea that homeless people are just addicted or lazy people who don’t want to work.

If anyone has read the book by (pen name) George¬†Orwell or Eric¬†Blair ¬†‘Downtown in Paris and London’ – a biographical ¬†account of Orwell’s own decision to turn away from his privileged lifestyle & live rough as a “tramp”,¬†in a passionate attempt to be taken seriously as a writer in his lifetime. He was a radical.

We can see how our views in over a century about “tramps” are seriously¬†misunderstood in a social, cultural & Historical Context

Like Orwell’s¬†book ‘ The priest’ uses a common writing technique by adopting the register¬†of the characters narrated about in the video.

Here is a bit of context

A few months ago I was on my way to see my doctor & I was standing at the traffic lights waiting to cross the road. A (homeless)  couple had made a sign stating

WE ARE HOMELESS -We will wash your car for money or food. We want to work.

When I was homeless (couch) I used my last bit of money and bought a one-way ticket to go and live with my (now deceased) Aunt in Barcelona for 3 months.

Homelessness doesn’t have to mean you are on the streets. Homelessness is also about couch surfing, temporary accommodation, hostels.

It is not easy getting off the streets. Trust me. I have done the research. Red tape issues are huge obstacles ( to name but one).

Tek Life

(Follow up) FEATURE: CORKY TRAXMAN STRONG

Cornelius Ferguson (Corky Traxman Strong)  became one of the co-founders of (deceased) D.J. Rashed and D.J. Spinn and the  Teklife crew which lead him to infuse the juke and the footwork subculture revival with his personal, old school Chicago house and acid sound.

Footwork juke dance -is a huge revival back from the ’90s composed of mainly using Samplers, drum machine Roland TR-808, synthesizer, and a sequencer to get people dancing at 160 BPM. It’s infectious to watch and try out the moves yourself.

Be ready to feel like you are dancing on lit coals.TEK LIFE

His long extensive career in the music industry means he has a huge fan base in Japan, France, Britain.

His album came 3rd in   The Rolling Stones 20 BEST EDM & ELECTRONIC music Albums( 2017) called TRAXMAN TEKVISION

Of all the Chicago footwork architects from the frenetic genre‚Äôs first wave of worldwide exposure, Cornelius ‚ÄúTraxman‚ÄĚ Ferguson has proven to be the hardest rocking ‚Äď the most willing to make mincemeat of heavy metal riffs. His fifth-or-so album explores a new type of harshness thanks to tweaking the minimalist textures of vintage electronic music ‚Äď ‚ÄúTone Deaf‚ÄĚ is like a pulsating sine wave turned into funky morse code, ‚ÄúWhop Line‚ÄĚ is a piercing wobble sent howling and wiggling onto the dancefloor. Tracks like ‚ÄúGone Girl‚ÄĚ are a more familiar return to tweaking classic pop songs, but his stuttering work ‚Äď presumably his quick fingers on an MPC ‚Äď leaves busted-sounding glitches and skip

(Rolling Stones)

His latest album has just dropped. Support music artists and get his DillaZ EP from Bandcamp.

Check out his acid house mix too.

Mrs Thought bubble

This is a surreal piece  I wrote during a surreal time.

It’s about the cruelty of life and how the elderly are treated in Britain. It was inspired by the time I spent with my grandmother in her care home when she had Dementia and Alzheimers.

It’s a stream of consciousness ¬†Short Borderline script.

¬†MRS BRUISED: ¬†“I’m tired”

¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†“I’m tired”

CARD SHUFFLER: (throws his voice from a table on the left)

¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† “I’m tired too.”

MRS BRUISED:          (sits upright)

¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†“I’m tired”

CARD SHUFFLER: ¬† ¬† “Aye? Go to sleep then.”

(The room fans out into a full house of insidious laughter)

MISS CARDIGAN:   excuse me, Dear, can you tell me where the toilets

¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† I’ve only just ¬†popped by/

THE WEED: ( Looks around for a sign indicating the Mangers office)

                                         Of course, just follow me.

(THE WEED walks back from the toilets  and goes to crouch down to hold MRS THOUGHT BUBBLES  hand).

THE WEED: ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†¬†She’s pissed herself. Can someone change her?

THE ROSE: ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†¬†No, she hasn’t.

GINGER:                (enters) Here you go. Open your mouth?

(GINGER shovels a hefty spoonful of what looks like boiled bagged food)

THE WEED: (aside) Lost in thought……The smell of piss can’t be worse than death’s kiss‚Ķ

GINGER:               Here- wah-la!  open your mouth.

¬† Mrs Thought Bubble’s inner thoughts

THE WEED:           Tu es Pleine?

(aside)                 Like an old coffin opening for the first time in a          century;

 MRS THOUGHT BUBBLE:   Pleine.

THE ROSE:               You   are thirsty today.

( Comes back from the kitchen with another full beaker of  red diluted kids juice)

                                     So so thirsty.

THE WEED: (aside) Three empty beakers all lined up in a row – My eyes rest and are ready to aim – trigger happy and ready to blow.

                               She has pissed herself, look!

THE ROSE:          Oh you have made a pee-pee Mamie- a pee-pee!

 REGRESSION SOUNDS

(chorus) A Nod. A skeleton- face grins

Bright light beams from  Mrs Thought Bubbles eyes.

An Image.

A carved pumpkin with a toothy grin.

Burning away in a dark room within.

More strained laughter churns out lactic acid.

MRS BRUISED : (on a loop)

                              Oh, I am tired.

BRUNETTE:      Fiddler!  Stop putting your hands down your pants.

THE WEED:     Maybe that is the only way she gets to feel something.

(Legs splayed- ¬†FIDDLER’S fingers explores her vagina hungrily)

MRS BRUISED: ¬† ¬† ¬†¬†I’m tired.

CARD SHUFFLER:  Yeah me too! Shut up.

(Eyes veer to the table on the left).

THE WEED:  Dying flowers  in a glass vase.

If I had to throw it would reality become what I once knew it to be?

Jeer me on why don’t you?¬†

Throw the fucking vase.

Throw it!

How long have those silver wrapped chocolates been  stood there. This is not some fancy New York hotel.

If they are going to start leaving chocolates make sure you get Hershey’s kisses.

Brown as the shit under neath Mrs Thought bubble’s ¬†nails.

THE WEED:  She has pissed herself!

GINGER:      I will go get dessert.

THE WEED: (aside) Does it come in different sex positions?

                                     Sweet Silence.

One of the toughest spells to break.

No one dares look at the other.

                                Carers go  a drift.

Congregate to conflate into  gossip office politics.

THE ROSE:            Go and tell them to change her.

(THE WEED creeps along the  floor until it has found the right door).

THE WEED:               Can someone change Mrs Thought bubble!  She is in her own piss.

MRS HEGEMONY:  Wheres nondescript and the other one too?

Great big sighs. A room full of eyes wondering if the pay they get is worth the time.

The time finally has a stroke and then another and another.

The hoist in all its bluesy hues comes for Mrs Thought-bubble.

GINGER:¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†I’m sorry I got called into the office.

THE WEED: ¬† ¬† ¬†¬†Look it’s not you. Its just… I am sitting watching Mrs ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† Thought bubble over here, shout out…. ¬†and ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†“she is wading in her own ¬†piss!

THE ROSE: ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†¬†Let’s go outside

THE ROSE: ( turns to BRUNETTE)

                             Can we take her outside?

BRUNETTE: ( a voice rolls out  like a plush  red carpet)

                         Of course.

¬†( BRUNETTE rolls out the wheelchair –)

CHORUS: She hasn’t been outside in over a year.

                    She shouts and protests.

Vintage sunglasses are placed on her  to  help process her eyes.

                  Flowers.Bees.Sunshine.Colours.

(More shouts and protests).

MAINTENANCE:  Do you want me to take a picture?

(THE WEED and THE ROSE in unison) Oh yes please.

(Chorus) CLICK !

                  CLICK!

Mature cheddar smiles captured against the vines.

THE WEED:  I love you Mrs Thought-bubble.

(Muffled sounds.)

¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†I’ll settle for that as an good enough au revoir.

                         Four doors.

                          Four Windows.

                          Four wheels.

Taxi takes us very fucking far away from here, please.

THE WEED: (to THE ROSE)     Did you notice that nobody came to clean the chair?

THE ROSE: ¬† ¬† ¬†Don’t tell me this.

Every night I cry myself to sleep

If we move her again she will die.

                         Please let her die.

                           Why?

                            Why?

                             It is beyond my understanding.

Petals start to turn inwards – it’s a crying shame to see rose a ¬†start to wilt.

RED CAP: ¬† ¬† ¬† There was a sticker attached saying ‘TO CLEAN’

THE WEED:    Oh.

¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† I’m sorry.

                         I love you, Rose.

¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†I can’t imagine what you are going through.

THE ROSE: (Wilts that tiny bit more)

¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†She doesn’t even know who I am anymore.

THE WEED:   I know who you are.

                         You know who I  am.

THE WEED: (aside)

It doesn’t matter if the sun is shining- water will always ignore the air around it. If it wants to pour so it shall.

Tears pour.

Tears break.

The weed reaches and creeps until it has a secure grip  around The Roses stem.

Hands entwined.

The Weed .

The Rose.

Both look out their own private window.

¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† Bee would have loved to see that cow…..

THE ROSE:     ( watered and ready to pose)

So tomorrow is a busy day. We have to sort out the cake

THE WEED:   The cake?

THE ROSE: ¬† ¬† ¬† …the wedding cake? ¬† And We need to find Mr Thought bubble an outfit ¬†for the wedding.

THE WEED:    Is she actually allowed to come?

THE ROSE:        Madam  Hegemony, says it is fine.

THE WEED:    (flat)Oh, Cool. I wonder did we tell the cake makers that we changed the theme from sunflowers to yellow roses?

THE ROSE:     Yes! We are just having yellow icing on normal    flowers..

¬†THE WEED: ¬† ¬†¬†Oh… like the colour on our invitations?¬†

(Stationary).

THE ROSE:      See you tomorrow.

THE WEED: Mint, Yes.. tomorrow… (as an after thought)

THE ROSE: ¬† 10:30, Don’t be late. ¬†We are getting threaded first.

¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† Have you got the Bee’s shoes?

THE WEED:  Yes Mam.

THE ROSE: ¬† ¬†I swear if you had loads of money in this town you still ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† wouldn’t be able to spend it.

¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† It’s all bullshit

(from) THE HORSES MOUTH:

And so the earth continues to travel around the sun.

                    The sun goes down.

The moon is full-faced and all fluttering eyelashes.

And  I still have a long face.

                 Nothing but everything changes.

Nay,

Neigh!

Horses don’t talk.

Neither do flowers

Horse manure.

Bullshit.

Jut another day in ‘I wonder what the fuck ¬†next land?

Just an average day in an average Care home.

My mother called me a Narcissist‚Äč

(Reading the book-  ‘poems for a world gone to shit’
Here’s one I wrote of to add to poems for a world gone to shit. A post-suicide poem I wrote in 2018. For the record, my mother didn’t call me this. She called me worse. I’m seriously joking now.

My mother called me a narcissist
I delayed in ringing an exorcist.

Eve didn’t want to admit she was too affronted by the orange county housewife
I’ d laugh if it weren’t for the affray
the truth is I’m a direct line of my self sabotagist.

My mother called me a narcissist cos I  tried to kill myself
She didn’t find it funny when I told her to go along with it.

She didn’t get it.

I take up my place as a dyed goat dressed in sheep wool.
I wonder if I can make it.
I forget
language-

so I bleat in Beast instead of weeping my tears of rage & regret.
